JAM Tots

JAM Tots is re-opening on Wednesday 22nd September!

Due to Covid-19 we have introduced some new measures to JAM Tots and implemented a booking system.

Please see below for more details of what to expect.

Every Wednesday (except in school holidays) we run a toddler group called JAM (Jesus And Me) Tots from 9:30am until 11:00am.  All children from birth until they start school are welcome to join us with their parents/carers.

JAM Tots is £1 per family and includes a cup of tea/coffee for the grown ups and a snack for the little ones.  Each week we have plenty of toys and ride alongs for the children. During JAM Tots we will sing a few nursery rhymes and enjoy some stories from the Bible together.

For your peace of mind, our staff are police checked and hold food hygiene certificates. There is always a first aider on site too.

On very rare occasions we have to cancel JAM Tots at short notice, due to adverse weather or staff sickness, so we advise that you keep an eye on our Facebook page for up to date announcements.

What to Expect at JAM Tots

We are sorry to have to present you with such a long list of procedures, but the safety of you and your children & our staff is of paramount importance to us. We have produced a thorough Risk Assessment based on government guidelines & feel confident that with your help & support, we can reopen safely. Please familiarise yourself with the following guidance.

We know that there is nothing here that you wouldn’t be doing already. So thank you for your patience.

  • Anyone who is symptomatic, has tested positive, is awaiting a test result or has been told to self-isolate by NHS Wales Test Trace Protect, must not enter our premises.
  • If adults are able to take a LFT before attending, that would be great. These can be ordered on line, free of charge. https://gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests
  • Booking system  Attendees will have to book their place in advance so we can prepare the church for adequate social distancing. Those who arrive without pre-booking may be allowed in if there is space.
  • Registration – At your initial registration we will ask for contact details for Track & Trace purposes. These details will never be shared & will be kept according to GPDR regulations. Each week we will keep a register of attendees, including time of entry & exit for Track & Trace purposes.
  • Ventilation – Windows will be open in the church to aid ventilation, as suggested in government guidelines. We recommend bringing a warm layer of clothing for you and your little ones!
  • Personal belongings – Please only bring essential bags/personal belongings to minimise contamination.  We politely ask that children don’t bring their own toys to JAM Tots
  • Start time – Doors will open at 9:30am.  If you arrive early, please wait outside/in your car.  JAM Tots will end at 11:00am.
  • A staff member will be waiting inside to welcome you & your child(ren0. They will ask if you are all feeling well & are symptom free. If you have any symptoms, please remain at home to avoid embarrassment of both staff & yourself as you will be asked to go home
  • Handwashing – Children & adults will be asked to clean their hands upon entry, after using the bathroom & before leaving the building. Child friendly sanitising foam will be available for babies & children.  There is alcohol based hand gel for parents. Soap & water can be used in the cloakroom if you prefer.
  • Masks  all adults will be expected to wear masks indoors as this is the law in Wales – except for those who are exempt.
  • Social distancing – We appreciate that young children are unable to social distance, but we require all adults to social distance from one another as much as they can. We realise that distancing is no longer a legal requirement but it remains good practise in recommended government guidelines across all settings. We have invested in some individual mats that we will encourage toddlers to sit on during snack, singing & story time to try & encourage social distancing! Please don’t worry if your child won’t stay on their mat! This will take a number of weeks practise before it becomes successful!
  • Restricting the number of people we have contact with is recommended so please try to sit near people who you meet with regularly where possible. People from the same household may sit together.
  • Personal belongings – Buggies must be taken into the annex. Please leave coats & belongings with your buggy or under your chair.
  • Toilets – only one household at a time in the cloakroom please. We have provided anti-bacterial spray/wipes and encourage you to disinfect areas after use.  The toilets & other contact areas will be thoroughly cleaned & disinfected before & after JAM Tots.
  • Nappy changing – please can you use the changing facilities provided in the annex cloakroom. We would appreciate it if you could wipe down the surfaces you have touched with the wipes provided. There is no changing mat on the changing table at present so you may need to use your own. Please take soiled nappies etc. home as we have no collection service for nappies in the church.
  • Entry fee – there is a suggested donation of £1 per family.  Please pop this in our piggy bank on arrival. To avoid unnecessary contact with cash we will not be able to provide change.
  • Refreshments – We will provide drinks for adults & a small pre-wrapped snack for you & your little one. Please bring your own drink for your childPlease put your rubbish in the bins provided.
  • Toys – will only be available that are easy to clean, e.g. there will be no soft toys, books, very small items etc. We would ask that you don’t bring your own toys to avoid their contamination. Anti bacterial wipes will be available at ‘cleaning stations’ around the church should you wish to wipe an item before/after your child has used it. We know how much the children enjoy ‘tidy up time’ so to avoid too many adults congregating, the toy trolley will be brought around to you so that the children can continue to help us put toys away.
  • Shared activities – Sadly, guidelines do not allow shared activities, e.g. craft/jigsaw/ playdough etc. However we are hoping to introduce a story time session when we will encourage toddlers to sit on their mats & listen to a Bible story. We will sometimes provide individual craft bags that you can take them home to complete with your child. We would love it if you uploaded a picture on our church Facebook page so we can praise your child’s lovely masterpiece!
  • Singing – Guidelines suggest that there should be very little singing indoors at present because of respiratory contamination. We will still have a carpet time where the children can sing ‘karaoke style’ & you can help them do actions to songs/nursery rhymes. We would request that adults refrain from singing except for designated staff!
  • Parents are already aware from their JAM Tots registration form that they are responsible for the care & safety of their own child(ren) during our sessions.
  • Families will leave one household at a time & hand gel/sanitising foam will be available to use before you leave the church.
