I remember years ago listening to a song, sung by Simon and Garfunkel, that struck me powerfully.  The song was called Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream, and here are the verses:

Last night I had the strangest dream
I ever dreamed before
I dreamed the world had all agreed
To put an end to war
I dreamed I saw a mighty room
The room was filled with men
And the paper they were signing said
They’d never fight again

And when the papers all were signed
And a million copies made
They all joined hands and bowed their heads
And grateful prayers were prayed
And the people in the streets below
Were dancing round and round
And guns and swords and uniforms
Were scattered on the ground

The song became a well-known anti war song in the 60s, and reflected man’s desire for peace. That desire still exists today, and we’re no nearer a situation where peace has any hope of breaking out. But it will!

The Bible speaks about worldwide peace. It is going to happen. This is what the Bible says:

“They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.” (1) That sounds great doesn’t it? A world without war, where nations will be friends and not enemies. The Bible also tells us how it will happen, who will make it possible:

“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples.” (2)

It’s the Lord who will make it happen, and the Lord is Jesus Christ. As he promised when he was on earth he is coming back one day to reign as King over all the earth, and he will usher in an age of peace. He will settle disputes righteously, all will see his wisdom and respond accordingly. Thoughts will not be of war but of collaboration, working together to ensure that none go hungry, none are poor, none suffer needlessly. Directing it all will be the Lord Jesus Christ whose wisdom and love will fill the earth. It’s a glorious prospect. As a believer I’m going to be there with him when he reigns. I’d love for you to be there too. Trust in the Lord Jesus, accept that he died for you, and choose to live for him. If you do you will be there to experience peace on earth.
